Alicia Keys, Nicki Minaj and Beyonce were a bunch of goofy gals today, and with good reasons — they just made both bank and history!
Last month, Jay Z bought music streaming service Tidal for a cool $56 million from Swedish tech company Aspiro. At the time of purchase, many thought Jay was crazy for getting into a bloated game where Spotify reigned supreme. But apparently, Hov had a trick up his Tom Ford sleeve — star power!
Thanks to each having a three percent share in the company, Bey, Nicki, Alicia, Rihanna, Usher, J. Cole, Kanye, Madonna and a few other acts banded together to reveal themselves as owners of the world’s first streaming service owned by artists!
The press conference billed as the #TIDALforALL event, went down in New York City earlier today and featured all the owners present and on stage to sign their “declaration of independence.” Afterwards, the cool kids adjourned their table meeting and celebrated backstage where Bey and the girls caught up and got silly.
And yes, even King Bey and Princess Rih stopped for a cool kids photo.
Now the question is; Will massive star power help draw in an audience that is willing to shell out as much as $20 a month for high definition audio, when they can stream music for free on platforms like Spotify and Pandora? That remains unknown, but with a total of 156 million Twitter followers alone among all of the owners, somebody’s going to be paying!
